MEET KYLE

Your advocate in the fight for a livable Montclair.

Kyle is a local business owner, lawyer, tenant advocate, and indie publisher. He has been working towards a greener, more equitable Montclair and will continue to do so as your next councilor.

In town, Kyle has fought evictions as a member of the Landlord Tenant Advisory Committee and as a youth trustee with Volunteer Lawyers for Justice. He has also pushed for a more sustainable Montclair, from supporting local green energy initiatives to championing new bike lanes.

Professionally, Kyle owns Porro Legal, a Montclair-based law firm, where his practice focuses on land use, real estate tax appeals, and local government work. With the ongoing tensions over development and a looming budget deficit, this knowledge will allow Kyle to get to work for residents from day one.

Kyle is also a co-founder of Stirred Stories, an indie publisher founded in 2020 to elevate marginalized voices and bring more diverse, equitable stories into print.

Montclair has a reputation of being an inclusive, progressive, diverse, and dynamic place, where immigrant neighbors and lifelong residents alike feel safe calling it home. Kyle is running to be your next At-Large Councilor to protect exactly that.

KYLE'S PRIORITIES

What Kyle will work on as your councilor:

Develop infrastructure strategically
Develop infrastructure strategicallyFrom mitigating power outages and flooding, the potential new PSEG substation, and everything in between, Montclair has the opportunity to address these concerns while being an environmental leader in the state.
Support inclusive housing
Support inclusive housingRenters and seniors alike are concerned about being able to stay in town. Supporting initiatives like Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and Transit-Oriented Development will help enable the people who make up the fabric of Montclair stay in Montclair while continuing to attract new energy.
Beautify town & expand green spaces
Beautify town & expand green spacesInvesting appropriately in existing park maintenance while expanding / enhancing wherever possible is integral to any healthy municipality. This needs to be coupled with efforts like strengthening the shade tree ordinance.
Focus on resident affordability
Focus on resident affordabilityIn a town known for already having high taxes, and with budget deficits now a reality, affordability will need to be incorporated into every municipal decision. Exploring regionalization, such as sharing services with neighboring towns, is one way to lower costs without cutting what residents rely on.
Increase tenant protections
Increase tenant protectionsMontclair has a large renter population, and it deserves the protection to match. That means strengthening the rent control ordinance to align with other forward-thinking municipalities and adding legal assistance for tenants facing eviction.
Build pedestrian plazas & bike lanes
Build pedestrian plazas & bike lanesAdding pedestrian plazas and bike lanes creates a more livable, greener Montclair by slowing traffic and reducing car presence.
